Shoot 2 - Work Diary

Plans For The Shoot & What I Hope To Achieve
In this shoot i am planning to go to the forest which is at the back of Harlow Common, in order to capture the journey that nature goes through in its lifecycle. I am aiming to try and capture any destruction to the trees and see what damage has been left by people who have previously visited the area, as well as any remaining areas that have not been affected by any damage - through people or nature.

What I Achieved 
I succeeded in my goal of capturing the woodland area that has been destructed as well as other areas which are still growing/ in the middle of its life stage. 
This image is capturing a field of plants/vegetables which were growing in the field at the back of the forest. It is showing the state of plants etc at the beginning of its lifecycle where it is beginning to sprout out of the ground. It shows the start of the journey that it is going to take through out its lifecycle whether it ends up as fully grown trees or a vegetable for people to eat. I like that the background is many more plants sprouting out of the ground, as it creates a nice green background, where as the closeup part of the image is showing that there is actually a large amount of mud present, but this is not the main colour that is captured. There is a contrast in the image of the growing plants in the foreground and then the fully grown trees which are visible in the background.  The camera settings for this image are an aperture F-Stop of 7.1, an ISO of 100 and the shutter speed was 1/60. This image was taken as the sun was setting but there were no surrounding trees to create any shadowing so a long shutter speed is not required. 

This image is of a tree that has split down the middle exposing the inside bark of the tree. It is showing the journey that the tree is in the middle, nearing the end of its life cycle as it is broken. It is hard to say whether the damage to this tree has been caused by natural events such as a storm or simply from the way it grew and became too top heavy compared to the trunk or if the damage has been caused by someone attempting to cut it down.  I like how this image captures the exposed inside bark of the tree, as it is showing the lighter brown colour of the bark compared to the darker brown/green colour of the outer bark. The tree also contrasts with the healthy tree behind it as there is no damage to that tree and so it is clear that something has occurred in order for this tree to of split down the middle. The camera settings for this image were an aperture F-stop of 4, and ISO of 400 and a shutter speed of 1/30. Again this image was taken when the sun was setting, it was also a bright and non cloudy day so the weather did not further affect the lighting on this image, it was also in a clearing so there is no shading created by any other surrounding trees. This is the style of image that i was hoping to achieve as it captures both a healthy strong tree and the weak broken one, which is what i was looking for as i wanted to see the effects of nature/humans on nature. 




What I Am Going To Do Next
I would like to further explore the idea of forestation and other similar areas as i feel it is a good way of showing the journey that nature goes through. However in my next shoot i am going to explore something on the opposite to a forest. I am going to look at a seaside town and explore the beaches/pier and surrounding town. It is capturing the area of a town once a journey has occurred.
